1925 British Antique Meerschaum Smoking Pipe, Sterling Silver Mount, M Friedlander & Co., in Case

An antique meerschaum pipe by M Friedlander & Co, hallmarked at the Glasgow Assay Office in 1925, complete with its original fitted hard case.

The elegantly shaped bowl is carved from meerschaum, a porous mineral whose name means “sea foam.” With use, it absorbs the smoke’s compounds and gradually develops a rich patina, changing from a soft milky white to a deep amber hue—its most appealing feature. A sterling silver band wraps around the joint, and its elegant contrast with the beautiful amber-colored mouthpiece lends the pipe an air of distinction.

There is carbonization inside the bowl and around its rim, along with minor surface scratches and small dents, and discoloration inside the case. The stem (mouthpiece) is also a little loose. With the character of an item that has aged for a century, this distinguished piece will lend an elegant touch to a quiet moment of relaxation and reflection.
