Vintage American Silver-Overlay Glass Plate, 25 cm Diameter

This is a plate crafted in the United States between the early and mid-20th century, featuring clear glass adorned with sterling silver..

It utilizes a sophisticated technique known as "silver overlay," in which a thick layer of sterling silver is fused to the surface of the glass through electrolysis and firing. The rim is exquisitely decorated with graceful acanthus leaf scrolls and charming flower baskets, with delicate hand-engraved details adding fine expression to the petals and the weave of the baskets. The radial cuts in the center beautifully reflect light, further enhancing the soft luster of the sterling silver..

At a generous 25cm in diameter, this plate can be used to serve whole cakes or seasonal fruits, and adds a refreshing, elegant touch to your table as a serving plate for tea time treats. The "STERLING" hallmark is visible on the silver decoration at the rim, and while there is some fine wear and minor tarnishing characteristic of aged silver, the glass is free of chips and remains in excellent condition..
